Governor Pritzker Announces $24.9 Million for Park and Recreational Facility Projects
SPRINGFIELD â Governor JB Pritzker today announced that more than $24.9 million in state grant funding has been approved for local governments to construct, renovate, and improve buildings or purchase land to be used for public access and recreation. The funding is made available through the Park and Recreational Facility Construction Act (PARC) grant program, part of the Governorâs Rebuild Illinois capital program.
âThanks to the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, park and recreational facilities across the state are receiving critical funding to expand and enhance outdoor areas,â said Governor JB Pritzker. âProjects being funded through the PARC grants are important investments that will improve communities and allow Illinoisans an opportunity to enjoy their local parks, forest preserves, and recreation facilities.â
Over 250 Easter eggs were donated to organisations in the borough. Parkside Councillor Iain Mooney organised the donations and said the ‘thank you’ gesture looked to give back to community groups. The council’s lead member for health and wellbeing said: “Children and their families have been hit hard over the past 12 months due to the changes associated with the pandemic. “Despite this, community groups like these have been working tirelessly to help those in need. “We want to give back to these groups, children and families to say thank you, and what better way than chocolate?” The donations were given to Love Barrow Families, Barrow Community Kitchen, Leonard Cheshire, Project John Hub, Dalton Family Action and Furness Multi-Cultural Community Forum.
The filing deadline for these seats is Thursday, March 18.
In Hermiston, the seats belonging to Karen Sherman, Mark Gomolski, Bryan Medelez and Brent Pitney are all up for election. Sherman and Pitney are running for new terms on Position 6 and Position 4, respectively.
Dain Gardner, a senior trooper with the Oregon State Police, is running for Position 3, the seat held by Gomolski.
If no one files for an open seat, the winner of the write-in vote will be offered the seat. If they decline, the board can appoint someone to the seat.
Besides school boards, all fire districts, cemetery districts, water control districts and parks and recreation districts will also be on the ballot.

A 20-year draft plan for the future of parks and recreation in San Luis Obispo is now available for public viewing.
The Parks and Recreation Blueprint for the Future covers the next two decades and has been in the works since 2018.
It’s a conceptual plan to guide the development of parks, facilities and programs in the city through 2041.
The draft outlines five system-wide goals for the city’s parks and recreation: build community and neighborhoods, meet the changing needs of the community, practice sustainability, optimize resources and ensure safety.
Greg Avakian is the director of the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department, and he said the recreation plan covers as many community needs as possible.

San Luis Obispo County-owned land at Cave Landing near Avila Beach is now part of the county’s park system.
The County of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department will move ahead with its plan to manage and improve the Cave Landing area after it received March 16 approval from the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors.
Director for SLO County Parks, Nick Franco, said if the department can get all the grant funding and bids, significant improvements can begin at the site.
“So the management goal overall has been to protect the natural character of the site and maintain it as a safe area so that people could access the beach, the cave, the trails and also enjoy the views of the coast and the sky that are up there,” Franco said.
